After reading about Stranglehold game at Joystiq, I was a bit interested and one of the comment refers me to a movie called A Better Tomorrow.
After a Wikipedia time burning, I came to know that it is the movie that starts it all. A movie that starts gun fu and heroic bloodshed. Well, that's a good to watch movie then.
First, I skipped directly to the action scenes. Not so interesting, I've seen better, I thought. Then I watched the movie in full and it's really a good movie. The action scene, when combined with the storyline, becomes much cooler because I couldn't wait to see Mark (Chow Yun Fat) go and kill those baddies.
On the storyline side, it's a romantic gangster kind of thing. Ah, I'm not so good at describing it. I'm not a movie critic after all.
So this is the kind of movies that my parents' generation were watching. They surely had a good time with these kind of movies around. And so do I because my next movie to watch will be Hard Boiled, with more action, more bloodshed, and more body count. Surprisingly, Hard Boiled is number 3 in movie body count (307 bodies), after 2 Lord of the Rings movie, which can be counted out because I believe most of it are CG. So it can be said that Hard Boiled is number 1 in non war or non CG movie. That makes me want to watch it right NOW!
Not really zombies, but Ganados, or parasite infected people in Resident Evil 4.
My PS2 is almost dead. Every time movie is playing, it will hang. I can't play RPG anymore, argh.. So in boredom last weekend, I tried to play Katamari, can't get pass the opening movie, Okami, can't even get to title screen. Oh my.. I better fix this soon.
So in the end I played Resident Evil 4, mercenary mode. At that time, I only have 3 characters. I tried to get through the third stage using Ada but failed. Then I used Leon and in the end managed to get 4 stars and get HUNK as the reward. One bad thing about Leon is the shotgun. Too slow. That's dangerous against single hit kill chainsaw guys, but can still manage against J.J.. If only it's faster, then he'll rock.
HUNK is great. TMP all the way, man. Which means all the ammo you'll get are TMP ammo. It also means extra slots for grenades and health items. Love it. I played as HUNK for the fourth stage. Damn that Dr. Salvador. He's the only guy that can kill me at fourth stage. So once I managed to kill him with 3 grenades, life was so much easier. And there I got Wesker as a reward. But Wesker looks weak to me, at least in fourth stage. Couldn't even survive that one.
I haven't tried with HUNK vs the blind Garrador. HUNK doesn't have a powerful one shot weapon. I guess my option is grenades. But I read that Wesker rocks at second stage. His silenced gun will make life so much easier, maybe. I haven't tried it.
As of Krauser, haven't found his greatness. Maybe he's good against the stage bosses. One hit kill? But I think his Rambo style arrow, although powerful, is too slow. Need to be very accurate with it.
So 2 new characters in one sitting. Man, I thought it would be tough the get these guys. Now my target is 5 stars for all stages. Yeah!
Now I understand why Utada Hikaru is chosen as Nintendo DS's representative. She's a great Tetris player herself. So not only that she's ultra famous, she's also a gamer, a dedicated one at that, with top score 99,999,999 at Endless Mode. Watch as she beats most players with 26 wins and 4 losses. She's damn fast.
In this video, she plays against Nintendo assassins (Tetris-DS experts from Nintendo). That looks like a dangerous name. Nintendo = cute, assassin = death. What a scary name :{ She actually managed to beat one of them. And above all, she's so different from what I thought she is. She looks just like a normal girl and cute too.
Man, it makes me want to buy a DS and play Tetris..
Al last I get my new PC. The model is Compaq Presario SR1960AP. I'm disappointed by the lack of front ports. So all the USB, audio out, etc are at the back. So much for modern age PC. Yo, this is year 2007, or at least the PC is made in 2006. Front ports are just so common and useful. Yet this is what I'm getting. I guess cheap is really cheap. Sigh, at least it's Windows Vista capable, with RAM upgrades, though.
And btw, the monitor, which is Compaq FP 1707, has some lousy speakers. Almost laptop quality. This is also the first time for me using 1280 x 1024 screen resolution. I'm impressed by the screen real estate. In fact I felt that the monitor is larger than 17". It's like being sucked in into the monitor. Really.
Well, looks like there are some game reviews to post too: Disgaea 2 - Cursed Memories, Fahrenheit, Prince of Persia - The Two Thrones, Tomb Raider Legend. I finished quite some games during my laptop's death and I'm pleased to announce that all these games are playable on my dying PS2.
The last few weekends are just too busy. Can't wait for another weekend. Waiting for a weekend in office is quite a torture.
I've been playing DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2. It's definitely better than its predecessor, especially the hand to hand fighting. I tried playing DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi this afternoon and I don't feel like playing it again. Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is way better. Too bad the same old problem, retrying a battle needs another loading, is still not fixed.
finished ace combat zero last sat. i like ace combat 5 much much better. compared to ace combat 5, this ace combat has no soul. just a mercenary flying with his wingman. his wingman! that means only one at a time compared to ac5's three. but the good thing is the wingmen are better this time. they can actually shot down a named ace. wow..
the only plot twist is what happened to the wingmen. compared to many of ac5's plot twist or major event: (spoiler here) start at junior pilot, captain shot down, wingman shot down, lost a wingman, chased away by own base, coming back as the demon ragriz, kestrel sunked, and crazy final mission, come back as a hero. (end spoiler) i just got the feeling they're not serius on the story.
of course, engine wise, acz is surely better. the versus mode is very welcome. too bad nobody plays with me :/
one annoyance is i can't increase speed and auto pilot at the same time. strange huh.. is it intentional?
the ace style is quite a hassle, i think. i must finish the game 3 times to get all the movies? oww.. not to mention the supreme soldier style or something looks difficult to get.
overall impression: better play my ac5 again, haha.. i love the wardog/ragriz. not to mention that the ragriz color scheme is the best.

just completed the game. it's about a group of trainee pilots, getting involved in a war. mission by mission, they're building their reputation. then they're dead. and they come back, being an even greater hero.
i love how the story makes me feel involved. like when the kestrel is attacked, i did feel a sense of urgency, that i have to fly and save the ship. i also like how it makes me feel that i'm part of the squadron. great job, namco.
one weakness is that the wingmans are not good enough. they just don't kill enough enemies though they're supposed to be the elite.
resident evil 4 again, my friend. just now, i went to toilet in the middle of the game. i felt my heart pounding. this game actually increases my heart rate. yes indeed. throughout the game, i felt tension. where are the enemies going to come out? this place is quiet.. is there going to be a nasty surprise jumping from my side? i heard something.. someone.. mubling.. or chanting..?? where are they.. my right? left, behind? there they are! aim! shoot, shoot, shoot!! shit, they're already close. use the shotgun!
oh.. the joy of survival horror... you don't really like it, but you can't stop it. cause this game is just so damn good.
this guy is also known as the chainsaw maniac. one slash from him, and your head is rolling on the ground. this make him a scary enemy. the fact that he can sustain 30 normal handgun shot make him REAL SCARY.
when u see him move towards u, u'll start to get panic. or at least I get panic. try shooting his head or leg. when he is down, it's not relief. it's greater danger as he is going to get up again. so keep shooting at him, but don't leave yourself with empty clip when he gets up. or else, say goodbye to your lovely head..
a very cool game from capcom. at first i thought it's scary. i need to gather courage to play this game. but now i think it's not too scary. coz the enemy still looks like normal but creepy human. i don't know about the later part of the game.
overall it's more action oriented. see the enemy, plan your strategy (or maybe not), shoot them, kill them. it's just like how dino crisis evolved from survival into the action oriented dino crisis 2.
for me, it's quite a tough game coz i'm still don't know the best strategy to beat group of enemies except for wasting my shotgun shells or grenade. but it's fun. shooting the ganados is almost addictive.
Gran Turismo 4. Licence Test A-3. Trying to get gold. So difficult, from +0.055s to +0.002s difference to my target time. Trying and trying and trying... And when i got the gold, my time difference to target is -0.2 something. Wow.. dunno if i can repeat it. Repeating +0.002 is pain enough.
finally, i'll have all LUNA SEA songs. hm.. tasty..
playing MGS 3 lately. i tried to be extra stealthy (no alert mode) with no kill. very difficult.
comencing operation snake eater now.
this game is really creative. a lot of attention to details and funny too, especially when you go to snake's first person view on the cutscene with eva. what are you looking at, snake? hideo kojima is certainly one of the best game designer.
i though the snake at this game is the same at MGS and MGS 2. but realizing the timeline, it's impossible. then i realized this must be the big boss, whom solid snake is cloned from. to be playing big boss, that's cool..
Managed to clear mission 5 after trying till almost dawn few days ago. Answer is, breach 2 doors at the same time and everything will end in less than a second. But must be quick to boom the breach so that the Tangos don't hear noise, or at least it's too late when they hear. I know after looking thru the R6 forum. But still need lots of trying to get to the final room unscathed. Damn tough one. But partly because my plan is not good enough.
Next mission is too easy, just follow the default plan, everything is ok. No sniper and most T are just standing there in a big open room, waiting for bullets.
