A Better Tomorrow

After reading about Stranglehold game at Joystiq, I was a bit interested and one of the comment refers me to a movie called A Better Tomorrow.

After a Wikipedia time burning, I came to know that it is the movie that starts it all. A movie that starts gun fu and heroic bloodshed. Well, that's a good to watch movie then.

First, I skipped directly to the action scenes. Not so interesting, I've seen better, I thought. Then I watched the movie in full and it's really a good movie. The action scene, when combined with the storyline, becomes much cooler because I couldn't wait to see Mark (Chow Yun Fat) go and kill those baddies.

On the storyline side, it's a romantic gangster kind of thing. Ah, I'm not so good at describing it. I'm not a movie critic after all.

So this is the kind of movies that my parents' generation were watching. They surely had a good time with these kind of movies around. And so do I because my next movie to watch will be Hard Boiled, with more action, more bloodshed, and more body count. Surprisingly, Hard Boiled is number 3 in movie body count (307 bodies), after 2 Lord of the Rings movie, which can be counted out because I believe most of it are CG. So it can be said that Hard Boiled is number 1 in non war or non CG movie. That makes me want to watch it right NOW!

And the new idol is...

Not Blake, Jordin it is.

Hm... I thought I should change my prediction after watching the show. Reason being that girls may vote for Jordin, and guys don't really vote guys. Yeah, simple and silly logic.
Besides, she has the singing ability compared to Blake.

The finale show this time is not as good as last year. Last year, I liked the performances by Prince and Clay Aiken. But this time, it's kinda dull, with the exception of Blake's beatboxing, Melinda's performance, and the Golden Idol Awards. Melinda was singing with whom she used to sing back up. Cool, isn't it?

Well, now that it's over, the good thing is I'm free to do whatever I want on Wednesday and Thursday night. Yippee!

American Idol 6 Final

Tonight is American Idol final, with Blake and Jordin taking the stage. I can't accept that Melinda is out. From the beginning I though she should win it. But hey, popularity plays a role here. According to Yahoo, she's not too popular with the young. And the judges can't do anything about it.

Watching Melinda has been the big reason to watch AI for me, but now that she's no more, well... let's just watch it for the sake of watching the final.

The final result show is absolutely something to watch. The last year's show is just so good.

My prediction: Blake, because girls will vote for him.

Update:
I have watched it. Boring...

The Happiness of the Katakuris

This is part of the back dated series :P
That's just a cool way to say some stuff I wanted to post but was not able to do it for whatever reason.

OK. Let's talk about this movie called The Happiness of the Katakuris.
The movie begins with a weird nonsensical clay animation about an ugly fairy that starts with the fairy tearing off a woman's uvula and madness continues. And this opening has nothing to do with the movie's storyline.

Sounds weird? Oh yes it is. You know why? Because it's Takashi Miike's movie. Oh yeah!

This movie is adapted from a Korean movie titled The Quiet Family. But Miike added his own touch into it, which is... musical! This only means that madness is guaranteed.

I think I exaggerated a bit. This is in fact a comedy movie. Surprised? It's about a family opening an inn in secluded area and their guests died in their inn (no pun intended). Ow.. that's bad for business. So they buried them secretly. What will happen then? Just watch it already. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Eventually, it's a sweet movie about family values, with dancing zombies. Oh ho ho...
My favorite part is the musical of the captain and the family's daughter. So funny, cute, weird, cheesy, indescribable, yet sweet.

Borderline MENSA

Since university time, I felt I'm getting more stupid because my grades are falling down. My math underperformed badly since third year of high school. So I'm wondering, is something wrong with me? Has my intelligence somewhat went down? I wasn't able to absorb the lessons very well, I was lost most of the time.

Today I was reading 77 Ways to Learn Faster, Deeper, and Better when I found this:
Challenge yourself. People are often more intelligent than they realize. In a world that compartmentalizes and categorizes everything, not everyone is sure where they fit in. And genius can be found in many walks of life. If you honestly suspect that there's more to you than has been "allowed" to be let out, try an IQ test such as the one offered by MENSA. It's unlike the standardized IQ tests given in many schools. You know the kind — the ones which traumatize many young students into thinking they are stupid, simply because the tests don't really assess all student's knowledge and learning ability. And the ability to learn is far, far more important than what you already know.
Why not? But somehow there seems to be a problem with mensa.org site. So I ended up with http://www.iqtest.dk/.

On my first try, I get 127. Not so bad, but I screwed up a bit towards the end. I miscalculated the time left, so 1 or 2 questions are not answered. Besides, there was quite some disturbance and I was not in shape (tired and sleepy). Not satisfied and believing that MENSA level (130) is within reach, I tried again.

Note: the last few questions are totally ass, especially the last one, can't see any pattern there.

This is the result:

Borderline MENSA. Not bad. So I have proven that nothing is wrong with me. It's just laziness induced by bad education, haha. But will I make it if I take a real MENSA test? A Mensa member surely looks nice on resume.

AMK the new hub?

I pass through Ang Mo Kio when going to and back from work. I've met quite some people there.
First, there is an ex colleague from my previous company. I usually met him in the morning. Then I've also met some NTU classmates and another ex colleague.
Today I met an ex colleague from company and a NTU classmate.
Quite the meeting place isn't it? The new shopping mall's name is indeed appropriate: AMK Hub.

The new cinema there looks promising. Stadium seating, yeah! But how aI always think that the cinemas in Singapore suck. The seats are not comfortable. After a movie I normally end up with pain in my ass.

Weird stuff today. When walking home from bus stop, I get a back kick from a girl. I don't know what she was doing. She was walking with a guy and I was close behind her as we had just alighted from bus. She suddenly raised her leg behind like a ballet move and in the process kicked my hand. Then she laughed and said sorry and I just smiled a little. And she continued doing that. I didn't want to be caught staring at what she was doing so I walked on...
